Little Cayman Trip Report 2026
Picture this: you step off a tiny plane, the warm Caribbean air hits you, and within minutes you’re sitting by the pool with a cocktail in hand, surrounded by turquoise water and knowing that a week of incredible diving is just around the corner.
Welcome to Little Cayman.
The Cayman Islands are famous for their beautiful beaches, incredible diving and, of course, offshore banking. But did you know that the Cayman Islands are made up of three islands; Grand Cayman, Cayman Brac and Little Cayman?
While each has its own personality, Little Cayman is something truly special.
We headed there in March 2026 with a Blue Horizon Diving group, and it didn’t take long to understand why this tiny island keeps calling us back.
Tiny Island, Big Adventure
Little Cayman gets its name for a very good reason. At just 10 miles long and 1–2 miles wide, with fewer than 170 permanent residents, it is the smallest and quietest of the three Cayman Islands.
And that’s exactly what makes it so appealing. There are no crowds, no busy streets and no rush. Instead, there are quiet roads, friendly locals, beautiful beaches and an unmistakable feeling that you’ve escaped somewhere very special.
Even arriving feels like an adventure. The tiny airport runway doubles as one of the island’s main roads, and after stepping off the plane, you’re only about two minutes from theLittle Cayman Beach Resort.
The Perfect Spring Escape
April was an incredible time to visit. The temperatures were warm without being unbearably hot, humidity was lower than during the summer months, and the water was sitting around a gorgeous 28°C / 80°F.
Basically, the kind of conditions that make you wonder why you ever need to go home.
We stayed at Little Cayman Beach Resort, which is perfectly set up for divers. The dive centre is right on site, and the resort operates a valet diving system, meaning the fantastic dive team takes care of transporting your equipment, set up and even washing it at the end of the day.
On arrival, we were welcomed with a drink before heading over to the dive centre to check in. That evening, we enjoyed a welcome dinner, met our fellow divers and the resort team, and settled in for the week ahead. And what a week it was going to be.
Three Dives a Day in Paradise
The diving is, of course, the main attraction.
Each day we enjoyed two morning dives followed by a single afternoon dive, with the dive sites conveniently close to the resort. That meant plenty of time underwater without spending hours travelling to and from sites.
And then there is Bloody Bay Wall.
This world-famous dive area is the star of Little Cayman’s underwater show. The name supposedly dates to a pirate battle in the 1600s, when the bay was said to have turned red with blood. These days, the water is crystal clear and blue rather than red, for which we are grateful!
We were surrounded by spectacular coral reefs, huge walls dropping into the deep blue, swim-throughs and an incredible variety of marine life. Curious reef sharks cruise past, friendly groupers seem completely unbothered by your presence. Reef fish fill the coral gardens, and if you’re lucky, you might even spot a hammerhead. You genuinely never know what might appear from the blue.
We even spend one day venturing over to Cayman Brac, just a 45-minute boat ride away to dive the Captain Kieth Tibbets Shipwreck. The wreck is incredible, the visibility is clear so you can see the whole wreck in one fell swoop and is filled with life, from bait fish to barracuda. This is often many people favorite day as you get to dive two world famous dives in one day, the wreck and bloody bay wall! It’s also perfect for photographers.
Underwater Landscapes You’ll Never Forget
Little Cayman isn’t just about the marine life. The underwater scenery is spectacular too.
Some sites feature enormous swim-throughs and tunnels carved into the reef. At sites such as The Chimney, you can enter a swim-through at around 8 metres and emerge below 30 metres. Our group had several photographers, and they certainly weren’t short of subjects; colourful hard and soft corals, dramatic underwater topography, reef fish and plenty of unexpected encounters.
Whether you’re there with a camera or simply happy to watch the reef unfold in front of you, there is something to see around every corner.
Dive. Eat. Relax. Repeat.
One of our favourite things about a Blue Horizon trip is that the diving is only part of the experience.
After the morning’s two dives, we’d head back for lunch before enjoying some well-earned time by the pool. Then it was time for the afternoon dive, followed by an evening of relaxing, exploring or joining in with the resort activities.
And we must talk about the food.
The chefs at Little Cayman Beach Resort must be working overtime because the food throughout the week was fantastic. The resort offers a different buffet-style menu every night, with everything from BBQs to curries, and because the resort operates on a Saturday-to-Saturday schedule, there are no repeats.
Which means, importantly, no repeat dinners and no repeat activities on our Blue Horizon trips!
What Do You Do When You’re Not Diving?
Surprisingly, quite a lot.
One of our favourite afternoon activities was grabbing the resort bikes and heading off to explore the island. Little Cayman is home to an impressive bird population, and April is an especially fun time to visit. The trees were full of fluffy baby birds, including the island’s famous booby birds.
We also explored some of the nearby locally owned shops and cafés, giving us a chance to see a little more of island life beyond the resort.
Or, if cycling isn’t your thing, you can simply grab a cocktail, find a lounger and let the Caribbean do the rest. The resort also puts on plenty of activities, including trivia, karaoke and even hermit crab racing, all of which attract a surprisingly enthusiastic crowd!
And Then There Was Dinner…
Every evening seemed to bring another reason to look forward to dinner.
From fantastic fresh food to ice cream sundae bars and even banana flambé, dinner became one of the highlights of the day. And perhaps that’s what makes Little Cayman such a fantastic destination for a Blue Horizon trip.
You get the world-class diving, but you also get a genuinely relaxing holiday. There is no need to choose between an action-packed dive trip and a tropical escape. Here, you get both.
Why We Keep Going Back
Little Cayman has that rare combination of things that makes you want to return before you’ve even left.
Incredible diving. Warm Caribbean water. Beautiful reefs. Reef sharks. Huge groupers. Dramatic walls. Great food. Friendly people. A beautiful resort. And an island so small that life simply moves at a different pace. It’s the kind of place where your biggest decision of the day becomes whether to go for another dive, ride a bike around the island or have another cocktail by the pool.
We loved our April 2026 trip so much that we’re already planning our return.
